The Finger's 2006 Flash Fiction Contest does indeed have a winner, but we can't find him:
Jonathan Savoy's
"A Story about the News that is Fantastic" is the winner of the first ever Finger Flash Fiction Contest.
Jonathan will receive the honor of being included on The Finger's website and will be sent an Obscure Object(s) of Intrigue. Way to kick ass, Jonathan. Read his short story here.
Unfortunately, Jonathan Savoy's email address appears to be malfunctioning. Jonathan, if you read this, email us soon. If anyone knows Jonathan's whereabouts, let him know that his story did in fact kick enough ass to win The Finger's Flash Fiction Contest, and that he should email us. If you're Jonathan, or you think that you could help us track him down so that we can mail him his Obscure Object(s) of Intrigue, or you're simply a private email voyeur, read this, the email we tried sending notifying Jonathan of his literary success. Any Savoy imitators will be prosecuted. And by prosecuted, we mean ignored.
The Finger's Flash Fiction Contest #2 will now commence. Here are this contest's parameters:
1. This is a flash fiction contest; all entries must be short stories, 750 words or less.
2. Your story must incorporate the following: Elvis, Brazilian leeches, and horseshows. It is imperative that these criteria are met. They can be referenced directly, act as integral aspects of the story or be inferenced using sly, obscure and unobtrusive literary methodologies. Just throw 'em in the pot and make a nice goulash out of them.
3. Deadline: March 28, 2007.
4. There is only one winner, this is an all-or-nothing competition. The literary champion of this event shall receive two notable prizes: inclusion on The Finger's website and a box stuffed with Obscure Objects of Intrigue.
Send all contributions to contest (at) fingermagazine.com.
The Finger is a website.
For approximately two years The Finger existed as a monthly publication based in Spokane, WA. Now, roughly eight months since the release of our last printed issue--nearly three years since the first issue--The Finger has been reevaluated and reorganized and will be operated as a website based out of Olympia, WA.
Also, we reserve the right to occasionally release small and unusual print editions of The Finger that act as anthologies of the website's content.
We will be making weekly updates to the website (on Sundays) and hope that anyone interested in alternative journalism will contribute to this, the rebirth of The Finger.
About The Finger:
The Finger is a chronicler of art, music and activism in the Northwest; an archivist of the the technological, ecological, political and cultural happenings in our region. By commentating on bands, artists, organizations and events largely overlooked by available media, we hope to build community among those leading creative lifestyles and those just trying to live.
